PETOSKEY - Western Michigan University men’s soccer head coach Chad Wiseman is traveling to Northern Michigan this Sunday to host private training sessions for youth soccer players. The event is a partnership between Wiseman and the Northern Michigan Football Club.
The sessions will take place at the Petoskey Fieldhouse and are designed to allow local athletes to learn from a Division I coach. Each training session costs $40 per player.
The training schedule is divided into two separate age groups. High school players will train from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a session for younger players from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Wiseman has served as the head coach for the Western Michigan Broncos for 13 seasons. He currently holds the record as the program’s all-time leader in both total wins and winning percentage. During his tenure, he has been named a conference coach of the year three times, receiving the Mid-American Conference honor in 2015 and 2017 and the Missouri Valley Conference honor in 2023.
Under Wiseman’s leadership, Western Michigan achieved its first MAC regular-season championship in 2017. That team finished the year ranked No. 9 in the national polls. The program continued its success in 2022 by winning a second MAC title and reaching the NCAA Sweet 16 for the second time in school history.
In 2023, during the Broncos’ inaugural season in the Missouri Valley Conference, Wiseman led the team to a program-record 20-game unbeaten streak. The team finished the season ranked No. 12 in the nation and reached the Sweet 16 for the second consecutive year, establishing a new standard for the program.
The coaching staff has developed several All-Americans and six MLS draft picks throughout Wiseman’s time at Western Michigan. His players have also signed professional contracts with Major League Soccer, the Canadian Premier League, and the United Soccer League.
