HARRISON - Mid Michigan College Athletics is celebrating a record-breaking winter season highlighted by multiple conference championships and a historic fourth-place national finish for women’s bowling. Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams secured berths in the NJCAA Division II National Championships, with the men’s program earning its first-ever trip to the national stage.
The Laker women’s basketball team finished with a 27-four overall record after going undefeated in conference play. The team captured the MCCAA Northern Conference Championship and won the NJCAA Great Lakes District B Tournament by defeating St. Clair County Community College 100-72. This victory earned the program its fourth consecutive trip to the national tournament and its sixth appearance overall. Head Coach Tanner Smith was named District Coach of the Year following the postseason victory. “These student-athletes have put in an incredible amount of work all season,” Smith said. “Their focus, teamwork, and determination have carried them through every challenge. We’re excited for the opportunity to represent Mid Michigan College on the national stage.” Postseason honors for the team included tournament MVP Delaney Seaman and all-tournament selections Alexus Dunn and Gracie Mellinger.
The men’s basketball team earned its first-ever trip to the national stage after finishing with a 25-six overall record and a 13-one conference record. The Lakers secured the MCCAA Northern Conference title and won the NJCAA Great Lakes District B Tournament with a 79-73 win over St. Clair County Community College. Head Coach Kaleb House received District Coach of the Year honors for leading the team to the championships. “Our players have shown resilience and belief in one another all year,” House said. “Winning the conference and district titles is a testament to their commitment and the culture they’ve built together.” The team was led in the tournament by MVP Zack Parks and all-tournament selections Amonti Greene and Vynce Overshown.
The women’s bowling team achieved a fourth-place national finish, marking the highest ranking in the program’s history. The team also won the Region XII Championship. Paige Vallad led the postseason efforts as the Region XII All-Events and Singles champion, while Mya Jarvis finished fifth overall in All-Events at the national tournament. Head Coach Jason Robinson was named Region XII Coach of the Year. “This group set a new standard for our program,” Robinson said. “Their dedication, competitive spirit, and support for each other helped produce a truly historic season.” The team’s doubles performance included a championship win by Aspen Davy and Vallad, while Anyia Sanford and Autumn View finished second.
In men’s bowling, Evan Daly became the first All-American in Mid Michigan College history. Daly finished first in All-Events among 137 competitors at the national tournament, earning recognition as the top bowler in the nation. He also finished second in the singles competition and partnered with Ty Olsen for a 10th-place finish in doubles. Throughout the season, Daly was supported by teammates Mason Hopkins, Mason Temple, and Trey Craige, who contributed to the team’s regional and national appearances.
Mid Michigan College softball also reached a milestone as Head Coach Greg Welch recorded his 100th career win. The college currently supports nine athletic programs, including baseball, men’s and women’s cross country, and co-ed clay target shooting.
