SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State University senior Grace Bradford broke a 41-year-old career rebounding record earlier this month during a road game against Michigan Tech. The Glen Lake native has just two games remaining in her collegiate career.
Bradford, a four-year starter for the Lakers, has recorded more than 1,000 points during her time with the program. This season, she is averaging more than 15 points and nearly 10 rebounds per game.
The record-breaking performance occurred during a road game against Michigan Tech earlier this month. Bradford, who has started for the Lakers for four years, attributed her success on the boards to a specific mindset regarding the importance of the statistic.
“I’ve always had like, a knack for rebounding and just wanting to have that stat line just because a lot of people like, see that as like a big push in games and like, I think rebounds win games,” Bradford said.
Bradford’s career has been marked by consistent conference recognition. She was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and has earned spots on the All-GLIAC teams every year since. She reached the 1,000-point milestone during her junior season and continued that scoring pace into her final year.
With two games left in the season, Bradford is preparing to transition into a professional field. After graduation, she plans to pursue a career in nursing.
