SAULT STE. MARIE — Lukas Kaelble, former captain of the Lake Superior State Lakers, has been named to Team Germany’s Men’s Ice Hockey roster for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics. He will join fellow Lakers captain Louis Boudon, who is representing France at the Olympics.
Kaelble captained the Lakers during the 2020/21 season, leading the team to a victory in the WCHA Tournament championship and earning a spot in the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament. Over his three years at Lake Superior State, Kaelble played 131 games, scored seven goals, provided 50 assists and achieved a +12 rating, establishing himself as a key contributor on the ice.
During his senior season, Kaelble was nominated for the Hobey Baker Award and was named to the WCHA All-Academic Team. He also earned All-Academic honors in previous seasons, demonstrating excellence both on the ice and in the classroom. Kaelble’s first career goal for the Lakers came against Bowling Green, marking the beginning of a noteworthy scoring career.
After graduating from Lake Superior State, Kaelble played one year at Clarkson University before turning professional with the Florida Everblades in the ECHL. He made an immediate impact in the playoffs, helping the Everblades win the Clark Cup Championship during his first year and contributing to their title defense in the 2022/23 season.Kaelble signed with the DEL club Fischtown Pinguins for the 2023/24 season, where he competed in 46 games, helping the team win the league’s regular season while reaching the playoff finals. In addition, Kaelble made his senior international debut for Germany at the 2024 IIHF World Championships.He later signed a three-year contract with his hometown club, Adler Mannheim, where he played a vital role as the team finished fourth in the league and made it to the playoff semifinals in the 2024/25 season. Kaelble also has an extensive international playing background, having represented Germany at various age levels, including 51 games at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 levels, before becoming a member of the senior national team.
The Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament at the 2026 Winter Olympics is set to take place from Feb. 11 to Feb. 22. Kaelble’s inclusion on the roster continues the proud tradition of Laker hockey at the highest levels of the sport. Lake Superior State University congratulates him on this significant achievement.
