BIG RAPIDS — The top-ranked Ferris State University football team dominated Northwood University with a 65-14 victory in the opening round of the NCAA Division II playoffs, led by an outstanding performance from quarterback Chase Carter.
Ferris State, now 12-0 for the season, extended its school record to 26 consecutive wins and advanced to the next round of the playoffs as the No. 1 seed.
The Bulldogs, who are the defending national champions and champions of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), showcased their prowess early in the game.
Ferris State quickly took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter with touchdowns from Carter to Carson Gulker and Taariik Brett, both followed by successful extra points from Eddie Jewett.
The Bulldogs continued to score throughout the game, including a notable 40-yard touchdown run by Carter in the third quarter.
Northwood University, making its first NCAA playoff appearance since 2006, managed to score two touchdowns during the game.
With this decisive win, Ferris State continues its pursuit of another national championship, demonstrating its strength and skill on both offense and defense.
The Bulldogs will look to maintain their momentum as they advance further in the playoffs.
