Sam LaPorta’s season likely over as Detroit Lions tight end has back surgery

ALLEN PARK — The Detroit Lions have likely lost tight end Sam LaPorta for the rest of the season.

Head coach Dan Campbell said Friday LaPorta underwent back surgery and there is a ‘slim’ chance he could return before the end of the season.

So far in this season prior to his injury, LaPorta had collected 489 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

He was drafted by the Lions in the 2nd round of the 2023 draft.

Detroit hosts the New York Giants this coming Sunday.
