TRAVERSE CITY WEST — Traverse City St. Francis and Kingsley met on Tuesday in a Division 3 quarterfinal game, where one team’s state championship hopes would come to an end.
The Glads lost their only prior meeting with the Stags this year, and trailed for almost the entirety of the first quarterfinal set. They would bring the game within one point, 24-23, but Kingsley was able to hold on.
The second set, however, belonged to St. Francis. The game was tied 1-1; it was the first set Kingsley had lost thus far in the playoffs.
The Stags responded to that loss by winning the next two by a larger margin and now advance to the semifinals.
Kingsley will now prepare to play the defending state champion Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
