BIG RAPIDS — The Ferris State University volleyball team clinched its 19th Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship by defeating the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in straight sets on Saturday.
With this victory, Ferris State concluded the regular season tied for first place with Wayne State University and secured the top seed for the upcoming conference tournament.
The Bulldogs showcased their dominance with a .284 hitting percentage and recorded 53 digs, while effectively limiting the Rangers to a .076 hitting percentage. Gabby Piazza played a crucial role with multiple kills, and Hayley Wegener provided key assists throughout the match.
Ferris State established an early lead against Parkside, capitalizing on errors and strong offensive plays to secure a 25-17 victory in the first set.
In the second set, Ferris State capitalized on a series of errors by the Rangers to win 25-16, with Logyn Geren and Piazza contributing multiple kills.
The third set saw Ferris State maintain control despite some service errors, ultimately winning 25-17, with Geren recording three kills late in the set.
Emma Bleecher and Emily May were instrumental in closing out sets with decisive kills, while Lillian Peterson and Piazza made a key block to extend the lead.
Ferris State improved to a 22-6 overall record and a 13-3 league mark, setting the stage for their GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal-round home contest on Nov. 19.
Ferris State’s victory not only secured their championship title but also positioned them as strong contenders for the upcoming conference tournament, with a home advantage in the quarterfinals.
