PHILADELPHIA — The 6-3 Detroit Lions were on the road against the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles, who were 7-2 on Sunday Night Football.
The Lions forced a punt to open the game; however, on their first possession, a tipped pass led to Cooper DeJean being in the right place at the right time and recording an interception.
Detroit’s defense would do well with the sudden change and force a field goal, Eagles led 3-0. The Lions’ next four possessions resulted in two punts and two turnovers on downs, one of those resulting in another Eagles field goal to give them a 6-0 lead.
Detroit got the ball back and used a 34-yard completion to Amon-Ra St. Brown and a 40-yard touchdown pass to Jameson Williams on back-to-back plays to tie the game at six.
Williams was called for unsportsmanlike conduct due to his celebration, which lengthened the extra point and resulted in a miss.
Philadelphia would run out the majority of the clock on a ten-play 64-yard drive, and the score at half was 13-6.
There were five possessions between the two teams in the third quarter. Both of the Eagles’ drives resulted in punts, while all three Lions drives resulted in turnovers on downs.
Detroit opened with a field goal in the 4th quarter, but the offense continued to be out of rhythm.
However, with 1:47 left in the game and Detroit down 16-9, cornerback Rock Ya-Sin was called for a pass interference and on 3rd and 8 to give the Eagles a game-sealing first down.
Jared Goff finished the night 14-37 with 255 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery only combined for 66 yards on the ground, yet Gibbs caught five passes for 105 yards. Jameson Williams added four receptions and 88 yards with a touchdown.
On the defensive side, Saquon Barkley was held under 100 yards and Jalen Hurts only managed 135 through the air, a solid performance despite only collecting one sack on the night.
Detroit will now be back home on Sunday, Nov. 3 to play the Giants.
