SAULT STE. MARIE — A young married couple just made it easier for the young ones to fish at the kids fishing pond at Rotary Park.
Riley and Jasmine Waterman came up with the idea this past Christmas to build and stock a fishing shack.
They built the shack and then placed it at the popular fishing spot in late July.
The shack has all the supplies needed for anglers, 16-years-old and younger, including rod, reels, live bait, lures and even small life jackets.
Everything is free to use. However, all gear must be returned to the shack when done.
“It absolutely makes my day whenever a kid asks if he could join or if I see kids fishing, they are the next generation and if we love this sport and want to embrace it, we got to make sure we are recruiting more into it,” said Riley Waterman, who built The Angler’s Tackle Shack.
“I think it’s just a huge, positive for our community and for people who maybe don’t have access to all the necessary equipment to fish,” Anne Ohman, Executive Director of The Chippewa County Community Foundation.
The Chippewa County Community Foundation is in charge of obtaining donations in order to keep the shack stacked with gear.
