TRAVERSE CITY- The 6th annual swim for Grand Traverse Bay is getting closer.
The two-mile swim will take place on Saturday, Aug. 9.
It’s been a way to raise money for the Watershed Center, and they hope to see you there.
There will be an open house from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20 at Mawby, where you can learn more about the swim.
The Watershed Center is a Traverse City-based non-profit organization that advocates for clean water in Grand Traverse Bay and acts to protect and preserve its watershed, and the swim is a chance for the public to get involved.
“We really do have a special treasure in our bay and in the clean waters that we have. And it’s one of the reasons why so many people live, work and play here. And so to be able to celebrate the fact that we have really clean water, but recognize that we need to continue to protect it into the future, this is just a fun event that gets people out to the water, reminding us all of the reasons that we are here and the fact that we really need to protect it if we want to continue to enjoy it the way we do now” (Christine Crissman, Executive Director).
To date, the swim for Grand Traverse Bay has raised almost $178,000 to protect Grand Traverse Bay.
