Boyne City’s Ryan Spate signs with Wayne State to continue football career

BOYNE CITY - Ryan Spate signed his national letter of intent Thursday to continue his football and academic career at Wayne State University. Spate led the Ramblers to a district and regional title this past season as he rushed for a school record 2,015 yards. Spate also played on defense for Boyne City, totaling over 100 tackles on defense and was named a first team all stater in division 6. Spate shared what made him choose Wayne State.

“Yeah, just came down all the coaches. They all seemed really nice, really cool. They had great experience. Either NFL experience or Division one experience, so that was nice.” Said Spate. “After like going through football school, with some of the coaches at Wayne State, I realized some of it’s really similar to what coaches here have taught me. So, it’s not going to be that big of a gap, jump in, besides like the physicality and the speed of the play.”

Spate is currently listed as a linebacker on the Wayne State roster.
