MOUNT PLEASANT - On Tuesday afternoon Central Michigan introduced McBain native and former Ferris State coach, Andy Bronkema, as the new leader of the men’s basketball team. Bronkema spent 12 years as the head coach at Ferris State leading the Bulldogs to a national championship in 2018 and 9 total march madness appearances. The McBain native made sure that everyone in attendance of his press conference knew where he was from.
“We’ve already mentioned McBain a few times, so that’s good. I don’t get a bonus for that, but we want to put McBain on the map.” Said Bronkema. “All the people that might be listening to this, the Ramblers out there, you know, this is this is what we do. This is how we were born and raised, and we’re going to continue to do it. I love representing McBain, the green and the gold.”
Bronkema didn’t say if any players from Ferris State would be following him to Mount Pleasant but said that there would be more clarity in the coming days. He did discuss what kind of attributes and characteristics of perspective players are most important to him.
“You know, the best tool in basketball is shooting. So, we’re going to look at, you know spacing the floor having some shooters, but really guys that when we interview them and when we recruit them and we check our references, you know, the guys that have winning, toward the top, it’s very seldom number one on the people’s list, but it’s got to be high toward the top.” Bronkema said. “You can tell that through the process, because it takes a lot of sacrifice and teamwork to win. Once we get to the level of talent that we need, it’ll be those little things that put us over the top.”
