ELK RAPIDS- The Elk Rapids girls soccer team had a stellar season last year; they advanced all the way to the regional finals where they fell to Grand Rapids Northpointe Christian in a shootout.
It’s a tough schedule on deck for the Elks this year and some new faces have taken over at different positions, but they’re looking forward to meeting the challenge head on.
“You don’t get better if you don’t play better teams. And that’s what I hope I continue to say every season. The 18 contests that we have during the season, whatever happens, happens. As long as my girls give, you know, maximum effort, win or lose, we’re going to get better.
It’s a group that really gets along well. The upperclassmen have kind of taken the freshmen under their wings and they’ve come together.
I had a kid on the team who lost their father unexpectedly, and so the team came together, and they all went to the funeral, and I went to visitation. I mean, and that early on is neat to see for kids to support each other” (Andrea Krakow, head coach).
The Elks begin their season, weather permitting, April 7th at home against Harbor Springs.
