Ferris State Hockey practices with local Petoskey youth players ahead of games against Michigan Tech

PETOSKEY- The Ferris State Hockey team is just four games away from the end of the regular season and the Bulldogs made their way to Petoskey Wednesday to practice ahead of their next two games at Michigan Tech.

After the team finished practice, they paired with local youth hockey players for a community service event. The younger players joined the Bulldogs on the ice to go through drills and get advice from the Ferris players. Head Coach Bob Daniels has just four regular season games left before playoffs and retirement, but growing the game is still his priority.

“We want to see everybody, you know, more participation. And we thought, what better way than having these teams that the kids look up to come out and we just think it’s going to be great for the program to help grow the program so kids, you know, can get into the sport that we all love” (Doug Nowles, PAHA board member and FSU alumni).

“You know, a lot of our kids come from small, small areas, small towns throughout North America, U.S., Canada, Norway. We’ve got players from Norway, and they know what it means to have an ice arena facility, a youth hockey program, and they got their start just like that. So, I think they enjoy being out here with the young kids. I know, I certainly do. I love seeing hockey grow, in Michigan and particularly in the west side of the state here. I think when the season’s over, I’ve got time to reflect on my career and all the great times I had at the Big Rapids. But between now and then there’s work to do” (Bob Daniels, head coach).

Ferris and Michigan Tech will play Friday and Saturday night.
