TRAVERSE CITY- Friday night will feature a cross-town showdown in Traverse City between TCC and TC West. It is also the third annual ‘Fight the Freeze’ game.
Nicolet Bank partnered with TCAPS three years ago to sponsor the game; they buy out every ticket to encourage donations at the door, the past three years have been a big success.
TCAPS also encourages giving clothes or gift cards if you can’t make it to the game.
“It’s where TC West and Central, both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams come together to help fight the freeze. All donations go to the Student Support Network, which helps remove barriers that kids have” (Katie Kubesh, SSN coordinator).
“Three years ago now, we realized that there was a large population of kids that needed help in some form. They were largely homeless or under the poverty line. And so once we heard that, it was very much a a record scratch moment where we realized we had to do something to help out.
the first year that we did it, the first couple of years now we actually got so many donations that from a clothing perspective, they’re still using up those original donations, which was fantastic” (Eli Hansen, Branch manager of Nicolet Bank).
You can drop donations off at Nicolet bank locations or give to SSN directly. The girls’ game will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the boys will tip off at 7.
