BIG RAPIDS - On Saturday the Ferris State Bulldogs will look to win their 3rd national championship in the last 4 years. The Bulldogs will take on Valdosta State, the two schools have played in the national championship twice before, with Valdosta winning in 2018 and the Bulldogs in 2021, making Saturday’s game the rubber match.
For Ferris State, they lost their first game of the season on the road at Pittsburg State, but since then have won 13 straight games to earn their spot in the championship. Bulldogs head coach Tony Annese talked about how proud he is of his team making the championship game.
“We’re one game away and, it’s pretty incredible to think about what these guys have achieved just great, young men, great football players. Really resilient, passionate and trying to, you know, achieve the ultimate. So, I’m just here for the ride, I’m happy to be a part of this organization, said Annese.
Valdosta State has trailed in just one game the entire season, and for Ferris it hasn’t been that way, the Bulldogs have had to come from behind in two of their 3 playoff games. For Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss this will be his first chance to start for the ‘Dawgs in the national championship.
“The first two national championships that we won I didn’t play, and I didn’t contribute to the team. And I felt like, you know, I needed to play and get on the field and, you know, do something for Ferris State and leave a legacy here.” Said Chambliss. “That’s something that I, you know, work towards with, the offseason and whatnot. And if I get a ring and I get the win on Saturday as a team, that’d be great, and I’d be appreciative.”
Saturday’s game kicks off at 2 and will be shown on ESPN2.
