Elk Rapids falls in hard fought state title game to Pontiac Notre Dame Prep

GRAND LEDGE - The Elk Rapids Elks fell to the Pontiac Notre Dame Prep Fighting Irish 3-2 in the Division 3 state title game on Saturday. The Fighting Irish scored 3 goals in the first half, the Elks responded with two goals in the 2nd half, from Jayden Hresko and Tyler Standfest but it wasn’t enough to get the win. It was the Elks first state championship game since 1998, while the Elks did lose, they have a young team and are keeping their heads held high.

“We’re a young team. I don’t think there’s any hiding that. I think you could see that on the field. We started three seniors out there today and the rest are all underclassmen. So, there’s a bright future ahead of Elk Rapids soccer,” said Elk Rapids head coach Nate Plum.
