Central Michigan gets ready for Homecoming game against Ohio

MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan Chippewas will host the Ohio Bobcats on the 100th edition of homecoming in Mount Pleasant. The Chippewas come in as underdogs, even though they’ve won 7 of their 8 home games. CMU also has a great record against Ohio, winning 27 of the 35 meetings between the two schools. The Chippewas have beaten the Bobcats in the past 2 games at Kelly/Shorts Stadium. Both teams come into Saturday’s game at 3-2, and CMU head coach Jim Mcelwain is hoping his squad can win their 3rd straight game, and has liked what his team has done the past two weeks.

“Well, I think the guys are starting to believe, you know, and that that’s an important part of it. You know, we’ve got to go out and make good things happen by how hard we play. One of the things we have done in the last couple of weeks is we’ve had out hit people and that’s I think the guys are growing a little confidence that way,” said McElwain.

On Saturday CMU will honor the team that won the Division 2 National Championship in 1974.

“Trying to get to a National Championship, a Super Bowl, just any type of championship is hard. And just knowing that we did that back then was super cool and that they did it themselves. It’s honoring. So, you know, going out and just trying to play for that team, you know, and really just going out and getting this win will be huge and will be very honoring, hopefully for them,” said defensive lineman, Micheal Heldman.

Kickoff is set for 4 P.M. in Mount Pleasant.
