BUCKLEY - The Mackinac Island Lakers soccer team made the trip down to Buckley for a soccer game on Wednesday. The team left the island at noon on Wednesday and won’t return back until the start of the school day on Thursday.
“A lot of times, that’s why sometimes the kids play sports because they get this. Half of our games are at home. Half our games are away. And that’s true for our fall and winter sports. In the spring, we only have one golf match at home and there’s no track match meets at home. So they do an awful lot of traveling,” said soccer coach Mary Patay.
Buckley ended up winning the soccer game.....
Buckley’s new head coach, Bryce Guernsey, is in his first year as the head coach of a varsity program, after making the move up from junior high.
“I’ve been a part of the program for a long time. I’ve played here. I graduated from here and then I coached the junior hockey team for six years. So it just felt natural to take over. There’s a lot of familiar faces, so it felt like a smooth transition,” said Guernsey.
