TC Central kicks off football season with first practice

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Central Trojans took the field for their first official practice on Tuesday, along with the rest of the MHSAA.

Though they were able to reach a playoff game, the Trojans will still look to improve upon their 4-6 record from last year and are confident in this team’s chemistry.

In their now fourth year in the ever-competitive Saginaw Valley Conference the Trojans will look to establish themselves as a threat through togetherness and sacrifice.

“I think we’re all really tight. In the years past, it hasn’t seemed super tight...but this year just seems like we all can be friends outside of football,” said Payne Waller, Junior RB/LB.

“We talk about sacrifice. What does that mean to sacrifice for your team, to sacrifice for yourself to be better? And we talked about forming positive habits in football, outside of school, in life to help you be successful. All those things are sacrifices you’re going to have to make if you want to be a successful person, you got to make sacrifices, said Eric Shugars, head coach.

Coach also said the biggest improvement he’s looking to see from his team this year is in the trenches.

The Trojans will begin their season Aug. 30 at Plymouth.
