Marion Sweeps Mesick to Clinch Share of West Michigan D League Title

MARION - Marion’s Georgia Meyer hit two home runs and tossed a complete game shutout in game one of a doubleheader sweep over Mesick on Wednesday night. With the wins, Marion clinches a share of the West Michigan D League Conference Championship.

Meyer hit an inside-the-park home run in her first at-bat of the game and then hit one over the fence in left field in the second inning. Harley Bear made it back-to-back home runs for the Eagles moments later to highlight a 10-0 game one victory in five innings.

Meyer also pitched five shutout innings with nine strikeouts in game one.

The Eagles kept their foot on the gas in game two, winning 17-3 in five innings.

Marion improves to 21-1 (6-0 WMD) with the victories and can win the conference outright with a victory in either game of a doubleheader against Mason County Eastern on Thursday.

Mesick falls to 9-9 (6-2 WMD) with the losses. This doubleheader was the second of four straight on the road for the Bulldogs and marked their final conference doubleheader of the season.

Mesick will return to action at Buckley on Friday.
