MARION – The Marion Eagles forged a tie atop the West Michigan D League standings with a thrilling come-from-behind 5-set win over visiting Brethren on Thursday night.
The Eagles won the first set of the match, 25-16, before dropping the next two sets to the Bobcats, 25-12 and 25-18. Brethren erased an early 6-point Marion lead in the third set to earn the win.
Marion then erased a seven-point Brethren lead in the fourth set to come back and win 25-21, forcing a decisive fifth set.
The Eagles then finished off the match with a back-and-forth 16-14 victory in the fifth set.
With the win, Marion (5-1 WMDL) moves into a tie with Brethren (5-1 WMDL) at the top of the league standings.
Marion next travels to Mason County Eastern on Oct. 3, while Brethren hosts a home invitational this weekend.
