CADILLAC – The Cadillac boys ski team took home the Div. 2 regional title for the second straight season, while the girls placed second overall at Caberfae on Monday as both Vikings teams earned spots in the state finals.
The Vikings boys posted a 20.5 in the giant slalom and an impressive 16 for a total score of 36.5 on the day. The boys had five of its six skiers finish in the top seven for slalom.
Elliot Lavigne had the third-best combined time among all skiers in the slalom with a 48.33. With the best time for the Vikings, Brady Koenig recorded a 23.01 on his second run to place overall in the slalom standings.
For the Cadillac girls, they came in second place in the giant slalom behind East Grand Rapids.
The Vikings kept up their solid performances on the slalom later in the afternoon, with Onalee Wallis finishing with the second-best combined score.
Avery Meyer led the charge for the Vikings, posting the best overall score in the slalom with 47.70 Wallis and Meyer were No. 3 and No. 2 finishers in the slalom in the team’s total 61 points in the regional.
Onekama’s boys and girls teams also competed at Caberfae in the Div. 2 regional championship.
The Portagers boys team had a solid regional showing, placing in second place right behind Cadillac with a total score of 106. The girls finished in fourth place with an overall score of 180.
The Division 2 state finals are scheduled for February 28th in Bellaire at Schuss Mountain.
