ROSCOMMON – Roscommon senior Alayna Ostling is headed to Western Michigan next fall to compete on the school’s cross country and track and field programs.
A four-time MHSAA Division 3 Lower Peninsula finals qualifier, Ostling finished sixth in regional competition this fall and 54th at the Division 3 finals at Michigan International Speedway this month.
Ostling says running for a Division I college is a dream come true.
“It’s kind of like a dream come true, because I knew I that I was probably good enough to run at a Division III or like maybe a Division II, but even to get to a Division 1 level that super exciting for me,” Ostling said. “I never thought that I would make it here, but with the support from everyone it all just kind of came together and I’m super glad I’ve gotten this opportunity. Everything that I was looking for in a school and in a team and area, it all just went together perfectly.”
Ostling is now preparing for her final prep track and field season in the spring.
