A pair of northern Michigan girls basketball players are taking their skills to one of the most talented NCAA Division II program’s in the state.

Cadillac senior Molly Anderson and Houghton Lake senior Macy Bisballe both recently committed to Grand Valley State’s women’s basketball team.

Anderson and Bisballe join a Laker program that has made 15 NCAA Division II national tournament appearances, won the 2006 NCAA Division II national championship and has gone 158-40 since 2014.

Bisballe is a three-time all-conference and all-state honoree and averaged 16.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per game as a junior. Bisballe helped lead the Bobcats to district championships as a freshman and sophomore and was named an academic all-state honoree as a junior. She’s also spent time as a member of Houghton Lake’s volleyball, soccer and track and field teams.

“It’s so exciting,” Bisballe said about joining GVSU. “It’s really like a dream come true and I’m so excited to do it at Grand Valley and with some awesome people.”

Anderson earned first team all-state honors as a junior at Cadillac while averaging 15.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 4.5 steals per contest. Anderson and the Vikings made a regional final appearance in the COVID-19 shortened season in 2019-20 and was rewarded with Big North all-conference honors.

“I’m just excited to be able to grow in the program,” Anderson said. “It’s a really good program there. And just still study and play hard on the court.”

Bisballe and Anderson join a GVSU program that went 28-3 a season ago and lost to No. 2 Ashland in the GLIAC tournament title game.

The Lakers open their 2021 season at Saginaw Valley State the week of Jan. 7.
