Hart Girls Win D3 State Championship, Two Local First Place Finishers

BROOKLYN – Saturday afternoon was the D3 and D4 state finals for boys and girls cross country.

Hart girls took home the state title in Division 3, with 59 team points.

Benzie Central finished fifth (217), Clare finished ninth (316), Charlevoix 11th (339), St. Francis 13th (351), McBain 17th (445), and Harbor Springs 18th (447).

Individually, Hart had four top 10 place finishers, Alyson Enns (2nd), Savannah Ackley (3rd), Audrianna Enns (5th) and Lynae Ackley (10th). Roscommon’s Allison Chmielewski finished sixth with a time of 18:43.76, while Benzie Central’s Mylie Kelly finished 8th with a time of 19:06.55.

In Division 3, Hunter Jones from Benzie Central took home the top spot for the boys with a time of 15:28.96. Hart’s Alex Enns finished sixth and Manton’s Noah Morrow finished 8th.

Hart took home second place (116), with St. Francis in third (182) and McBain in eighth (224). Pine River finished 16th (389), Harbor Springs 20th (441), Charlevoix 21st (454), and Clare 23rd (537).

In boys Division 4, Mason County Eastern took home 8th with 244 team points, while Petoskey St. Michael Academy came in 9th with 252 team points. White Cloud finished 12th (329), Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart 13th (343), Buckley 16th (415), Frankfort 22nd (490), and Johannesburg-Lewiston 23rd (535).

Individually, Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart’s Matthew Nowak and Petoskey St. Michael Academy’s Samuel Paga finished 4th and 5th, respectively.

In girls Division 4, Makenna Scott of Glen Lake came in first individually with a time of 19:30.20.

Also finishing in the top ten were Beal City’s Rachel Weber, Buckley’s Aidan Harrand, and Glen Lake’s Ruby Hogan.

Beal City came in third (143), Sacred Heart in fourth (158), Johannesburg-Lewiston in 8th (256), Glen Lake in 14th (377), Grand Traverse Academy in 19th (475), White Cloud in 20th (554), Inland Lakes in 23rd (567), and Lake Leelanau St. Mary 26th (595).
