Due to a budget shortfall this year, Forest Area Community Schools was forced to make changes to its athletic department.
With the school district making cuts outside the classroom, Forest Area athletic director and football coach Brian Mumby will not be returning.
Former longtime volleyball and school administrator Ron Stremlow is returning to organize the athletic department on a part-time basis.
Max Huntoon is set to take over the school’s football program. Forest Area was forced to cancel its 2019 season due to low participation numbers.
“He (Huntoon) just has an extremely extensive resume at this point,” Forest Area Community Schools superintendent Josh Rothwell said. “I know he coached football a lot downstate. He was working with Ferris State for a little bit. He’s been down to the state of Texas to do some coaching, so his background is football. It’s a nice, natural fit. He did coach last year. He was an assistant coach for Coach Mumby. It was a nice, natural fit. He knows the kids, the program. He has knowledge of the game, so I think it’s going to be a nice transition.”
Fall sports practice is tentatively scheduled to start on Aug. 10.
