CENTRAL LAKE – On a night when the state’s most prolific high school scorer was honored with a jersey retirement, the Central Lake girls basketball team cruised to a 56-10 Ski Valley Conference win over Pellston on Thursday.
The Trojans (6-11, 5-9) carried an 18-3 lead to the second quarter.
Prior to the start of Thursday’s game, 2011 Central Lake graduate and former Michigan State Spartan Jasmine Hines was honored with the retirement of her No. 40 jersey. Hines holds the boys and girls state record for career points (3,034) and rebounds (1,692).
“It just brought back memories of high school, and just how different it’s been from, you know, playing in college, playing professionally, and just how much I’ve grown,” Hines said. “Tt was just interesting to, like, reflect on some of those moments. It’s an emotional moment, because this place means so much to me. It’s just a really special place, with really special people, and I’m just really blessed to come from this place.”
In addition to the jersey retirement ceremony, Central Lake senior Finch Vanniman signed her National Letter of Intent with Aquinas College prior to tipoff.
Pellston (1-16, 0-13) is back on the court Tuesday at home against Gaylord St. Mary while Central Lake travels to Mancelona on Thursday.
