BOYNE FALLS – Boyne Falls senior guard Marcus Matelski signed his National Letter of Intent on Tuesday, committing to Northern Michigan University.
One of the state’s most prolific scorers, Matelski ended a five-year career that began in eighth grade as the state’s ninth all-time career leading scorer (2,421 points), ranking first in steals in a season (146), fifth in career rebounds (340) and 24th in career rebounds (830).
Matelski broke a school record for points scored in game, scoring 44 in a 79-27 win over Alba on Jan. 7, 2016, surpassing the previous record (43) held by current head coach Tim Smith and eclipsed the 50-point in a win over Traverse City Christian on Feb. 1, 2016.
At 6-2, Matelski led the Loggers to 97 wins in five seasons, five Northern conference championships and two district titles, earning Association Press all-state honors on three occasions.
