EVART — An Evart resident faces multiple felony charges after an investigation into the possession of child sexual abuse material. Jared Miles-Lincoln Curnett, 43, was arrested following a probe by state police computer crime investigators.
The Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force conducted the investigation. Authorities began the case after receiving information that Curnett was viewing files containing child sexual abuse material on the internet.
Investigators seized digital evidence during the course of the investigation. Curnett is charged with one count of aggravated possession of child sexual abuse material, one count of using a computer to commit a crime and one count of possession of cocaine.
Curnett was arraigned in the 77th District Court on Friday, March 13. He is a resident of Evart.
Following the arrest, the Computer Crimes Unit provided resources for parents regarding internet safety. Families can find information through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children website and the Michigan ICAC Task Force.
Officials also highlighted the CyberTipLine for reporting suspected child sexual exploitation. Reports can be made online through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
