LANSING — A former Osceola County man was bound over to stand trial in Osceola County’s 49th Circuit Court on three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

According to Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, Jason Kushmaul, 50, of Oakdale, Louisiana, waived preliminary examination and will face charges connected to allegations that he sexually assaulted three minors younger than 13 from about 2002 to 2008 while living in Osceola County.

Kushmaul was initially charged in 2016 by the Osceola County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office after the victims reported the alleged assaults, but he had already left Michigan by that time.

In February, Kushmaul was extradited to Osceola County and arraigned as part of Operation Survivor Justice, a partnership between the Michigan Department of Attorney General, local county prosecutors and the U.S. Marshals Service to locate, apprehend and return to Michigan fugitive offenders with outstanding sexual assault warrants.

“Operation Survivor Justice continues to ensure that individuals cannot evade charges by crossing state lines,” Nessel said at the time of the arraignment. “Through this vital partnership, we are committed to bringing fugitives back to Michigan to face the charges against them.”

Kushmaul is scheduled to next appear before 49th Circuit Court Judge Amy C. Clapp on March 27, 2026.

Note: A previous press release about the case incorrectly identified Tennessee as the location from which Kushmaul was extradited. The attorney general’s office said Kushmaul was extradited from Louisiana.

NOTE: All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
