Alpena man arrested for possession of child sexually abusive material

ALPENA COUNTY — An Alpena man was arrested after the Michigan State Police Alpena Post investigated accounts linked to suspected child sexually abusive material.

According to the MSP, Jose Laguna, 30, of Alpena was charged with one count of child sexually abusive material aggravated possession, three counts of possession of child sexually abusive material and two counts of using computers to commit a crime. He was arraigned Friday, March 6, in the 88th Judicial District Court, according to the release.

The investigation began in November 2024 after troopers received a tip from the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force about accounts linked to suspected child sexually abusive material.

Following several search warrants, troopers seized Laguna’s electronic devices, which contained digital evidence, according to the release. He was arrested and lodged in the Alpena County Jail without incident.

Laguna was given a $50,000 cash or surety bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for 10 a.m. March 12.

The Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit encouraged parents to speak with their children about safe internet use.
