Chippewa County snow sculpture contest runs through March 1

SAULT STE. MARIE — A winter snow sculpture contest is challenging people across Chippewa County to create snow or ice-based designs with a chance to win recreation passes.

The Sault’s Building a Healthier Community Coalition is running the contest, which ends March 1.

People who register online will be entered in a random drawing for Sault Seal recreation passes.

Educator Cody McLaren, of the Sault Tribe Health Services, said entries do not have to be entirely made of snow, as long as the design is primarily ice or snow. He said participants can incorporate items already covered by snow, including trees, mailboxes and fence rows.

McLaren said sculptors who cannot build at home can work on designs from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Sault Tribe Health Center, where snow piles will be available.
