TRAVERSE CITY — Jewelry trends for Valentine’s Day 2026 are highlighting colorful statement pieces and bold gold designs as shoppers begin preparing for the Feb. 14 holiday. Local experts recommend that gift-givers start their search at least three weeks in advance to avoid potential shipping delays during the winter months.
Nicolina (Nicki) Croad, the owner of CC Jeweler in Traverse City, said the industry is seeing an influx of new inventory following the Christmas season. While classic staples like diamonds and pearls remain popular, the current market is trending toward vibrant blues, yellows and pinks alongside chunky gold accessories.
Nicki said the 2026 season is defined by a significant “explosion of color” in jewelry design. Popular selections include vibrant shades of blue, yellow and pink used in statement pieces. “Pops of color are going to be huge this year,” Nicki said, noting that these items allow wearers to showcase a signature color.
In addition to colorful gemstones, bold gold pieces remain a major trend. This includes chunky necklaces, bracelets and large earrings. Nicki noted that the preference for substantial gold jewelry is a carryover from last year that is expected to remain a “huge hit” through the 2026 holiday.
Rings and necklaces are among the most popular choices for Valentine’s Day gifts. While some shoppers may feel hesitant about purchasing rings due to sizing concerns, Nicki explained that the jeweler provides a free first sizing for gift purchases. “If you don’t know someone’s size, don’t worry about it, because it’s easy,” Nicki said. She also described necklaces as a staple that can be used to dress up any outfit.
For gift-givers seeking timeless options rather than trend-focused pieces, diamond stud earrings and pearl strands are frequently recommended. Nicki stated that diamond studs are available in both earth-mined and lab-grown varieties. “You can’t go wrong with a beautiful pair of diamond stud earrings,” Nicki said. Other classic choices include diamond tennis bracelets, which remain in style regardless of current fashion shifts.
The store encourages customers to begin shopping three to six weeks before Valentine’s Day. This window accounts for the time needed to fulfill special orders and provides a buffer for potential shipping delays. Nicki noted that Michigan winter weather can often impact delivery schedules. “It does help if they would start to shop three to six weeks in advance,” Nicki said.
To assist shoppers who are unsure of what to purchase, staff members use a series of qualifying questions. These include identifying what type of jewelry the recipient wears most frequently and their preferred metal colors, such as silver or white gold. Nicki emphasized the importance of choosing an item the recipient will enjoy and reach for often.
