Kohl’s to close Sault Ste. Marie store March 14

SAULT STE. MARIE — Kohl’s in Sault Ste. Marie is closing permanently, according to a social media post Tuesday from the store manager and confirmation from a company spokesperson.

Kohl’s Senior Public Relations Coordinator confirmed to 9&10 that the store’s final day will be Saturday, March 14. The store is located at Cascade Crossing.

The retailer held its grand opening in early March 2016 with around 80 employees and was the 46th Kohl’s location to open in Michigan.

Cascade Crossing has seen several businesses close over the last decade, including Joann Fabrics, Bath and Body Works and Family Fare. Other businesses have moved in, including Hobby Lobby, Five Below and Harbor Freight.

“It’s concerning for the overall business community in Sault Ste. Marie so we are hoping they fill those because it attracts other people to the community, it attracts our Canadian customers and it’s a trickle-down effect. It helps our downtown as well,” said Tony Haller, executive director of the Sault Area Chamber of Commerce.

There has been no official word from Kohl’s on whether any other stores in the state will permanently close.
