MISSAUKEE COUNTY — The Missaukee Conservation District asked for public input on plans for the future Jamieson Nature Education Center, an 80-acre site intended for education, conservation and community use.
Joyce Jamieson donated the 80 acres to the district in 2021 to be used for education and conservation, according to the district.
The district is drafting a master plan for the Jamieson Nature Education Center, which it described as a future hub for environmental education and community gathering.
The center is planned to include interpretive signage, hiking trails and playscapes intended for people of all ages. The project aims to promote environmental education and community engagement.
“A space where the community can gather,” said Dani Hamilton, district manager for the Missaukee Conservation District. “We can host workshops out there.”
Hamilton said the district also wants the site to serve as a living conservation area where the public can learn from habitat restoration projects, invasive species pulls and forest management plans.
