Jeep crashes into Sault Ste. Marie home, no injuries reported

SAULT STE. MARIE — First responders spent part of their morning at the scene after a Jeep crashed into a house at 1120 Ashmun St. just south of Easterday Avenue.

Central Dispatch received the call just after 8:30 a.m. for a vehicle hitting a house.

“The vehicle was northbound on Ashmun Street when it failed to successfully navigate the curve in the roadway,” said Captain Kristin Autore of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Department. “The driver was cited for careless driving. No info on medical. He was not transported by Sault Fire Ambulance. The structure had to be supported and secured before the vehicle could be moved.”

Fire officials confirmed two people were upstairs inside the house when the crash occurred but they were not injured.

The driver of the Jeep was removed from the vehicle and moved to an ambulance but refused transport to the hospital.

A building inspector was on site examining the extent of damage to the house.

Sault Ste. Marie police had not released an official cause of the crash.
