ALMIRA TOWNSHIP — Almira Township Fire & EMS Department crews extinguished a residential structure fire on Maple City Highway on Jan. 17, 2025, and a juvenile was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Per a Jan 17 post from Almira Township Fire & EMS Department‘s Facebook page, Almira Township Fire & EMS Department units were dispatched just before 4 p.m. to reports of a residential structure fire and a victim who was severely burned.
First-arriving crews conducted a 360-degree exterior inspection and found smoke coming from a rear bedroom, the department said. An interior attack crew located the fire in the back bedroom and quickly extinguished it.
The scene was deemed under control within 35 minutes.
Inland Township Fire Department, Benzie County EMS and Benzie County Central Dispatch assisted on scene, according to the department. Long Lake Fire Rescue and Cedar Area Fire Rescue also provided an initial response.
Responding units included Pumper Tanker 7, Engine 7, Squad 7, Engine 9, Tanker 9, Squad 9, Alpha 71, Alpha 33, Bravo 72, Chief 7 and Chief 9, the department said.
The fire remains under investigation by Almira Township Fire & EMS Department fire investigators.
