CADILLAC — The Huron-Manistee National Forests are now offering firewood permits for 2026, allowing individuals to collect firewood at an affordable rate.
Permits can be obtained in person at any of the five Huron-Manistee National Forests offices from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Each permit costs $20, with a maximum of three permits allowed per individual, permitting the collection of up to five cords of firewood per calendar year.
To apply for a firewood permit, individuals must provide their full name, mailing address and details about the vehicle to be used, including the year, make, model, color and license plate number.
Permits will expire once the permitted cords of firewood have been collected or on Dec. 31, 2026, whichever comes first.
Those interested in collecting firewood should plan to visit one of the designated forest offices during stated hours to secure their permits for the year, or click here.
