Early morning ATM thefts prompt investigation by Manistee County Sheriff’s Office

FILER TWP. — The Manistee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating thefts and attempted thefts from ATMs during the early morning hours Friday (Jan. 16).

Deputies were called to an alarm activation at 4Front Credit Union in Filer Township. When they arrived, they say evidence showed tampering with the ATM and footprints leading away from the area.

A Tribal K9 team was called in to help with a tracking operation in the area of the credit union. Manistee City Police also assisted with a search of the area. Two men, ages 19 and 20, were located nearby and arrested in connection with the complaint.

The Sheriff’s Office received assistance from several agencies, including the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Tribal Police, Manistee City Police, United States Coast Guard, Manistee City Fire Department and Manistee Central Dispatch.
