In a statement shared by the center Jan. 8, Director Andrea Shaw told parents and guardians a verbal threat was made over the phone and the person who made the threat was not at the center.

Shaw said staff immediately placed the building on lockdown following safety procedures, called 911 and the Bay Mills Police Department responded and secured the building.

“At no time were children placed in harm’s way,” Shaw said in the statement, adding staff followed protocols and police determined the building was secure after an assessment.

Shaw said the center could not provide additional details because of the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with questions or concerns was asked to contact the Bay Mills Police Department at 906-248-3244.
