Woman arrested for arson after Cheboygan fire

CHEBOYGAN — The Cheboygan Police Department and Cheboygan Fire Department responded to a disturbance on Jan. 6, 2026, at 3:36 p.m. at the 300 block of North Huron Street, which was accompanied by smoke and flames.

According to a Jan. 7 news release, a 22-year-old woman has been arrested for arson and resisting and obstructing officers.

Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered smoke and flames emanating from a residence, prompting immediate firefighting efforts. No injuries were reported at the scene; however, one canine remains unaccounted for.

The Cheboygan Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into the incident and has requested anyone with information to contact them at 231-627-4321.

In response to the situation, multiple agencies contributed to the emergency response, including the Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Office and the Inverness Township Fire Department, along with Cheboygan Life Support Systems. Their collective efforts ensured that the situation was managed swiftly.
