TRAVERSE CITY — Austin Moore has been charged with making a threat of terrorism against employees at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Moore is scheduled for arraignment Jan. 8th, where a judge will decide on bond.
The Grand Traverse County Prosecutor’s Office announced that Moore’s threats were verbal and that he was unarmed during the Jan. 5 incident. His arrest took place at the Pavilions Senior Care Facility and he has a prior criminal history including a drug offense.
Initially, the verbal threat led to a lockdown of the Munson Medical Center, prompting all individuals on campus to shelter in place. Those outside were instructed to return to their vehicles immediately.
The lockdown was lifted when police established that there was never an active shooter situation. An earlier alert issued by Munson incorrectly referred to the incident as an active shooter threat, which heightened the emergency response.
Moore’s arraignment is set for Thursday, where more details about the charges may be revealed. The ongoing police investigation will continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the threats made.
