Gas prices in Michigan fall to lowest levels since February 2021

Traverse City offers the most affordable gas prices in Michigan at $2.50

Gas prices in Michigan have dropped 11 cents in the past week, averaging $2.70 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. This marks 18 cents lower than last month and 44 cents lower compared to last year.

Motorists are currently paying about $40 for a full 15-gallon tank of gas, a significant reduction when compared to last August’s peak prices. At the same time, the closing price of U.S. crude oil was reported at $57.32 per barrel, indicating moderate stability in the market.

“Gas prices across Michigan have dropped, with motorists seeing the lowest pump prices since February of 2021,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson for AAA-The Auto Club Group. Woodland’s statement underscores the recent trend in declining prices, which many drivers have welcomed.

In Metro Detroit, the average gas price stands at $2.77 per gallon, which is a four-cent decrease from the previous week and 34 cents lower than this time last year. Price fluctuations are contributing to mixed perceptions of the market. Their averages stand at some of the highest prices in the state, particularly in Ann Arbor, where gas costs $2.82 per gallon and Jackson, at the same price as Metro Detroit.

Conversely, Traverse City offers the most affordable gas prices in Michigan at $2.50 per gallon, followed closely by Grand Rapids and Marquette, both at $2.53 per gallon. These disparities highlight the variation in fuel costs across the state.
