Traverse City West falls to top-ranked Rockford Rams

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City West welcomed one of the top teams in the state Friday night as the No. 1–ranked Rockford Rams came to town to face the Titans.

West came out with early energy, highlighted by Carter Grubb attacking the lane and throwing down an emphatic dunk to get the home crowd on its feet.

Rockford quickly settled in, though, as Central Michigan commit Jacob Bascom stepped behind the arc and knocked down a three to give the Rams an early 12–4 advantage. The Titans tried to respond, with Grubb soaring in for a putback dunk, but Rockford closed the opening quarter in control, leading 17–6.

The Rams continued to apply pressure in the second quarter. Joshua Bascom cleaned up an offensive rebound and finished through contact for an and-one as Rockford extended the lead to 25–6.

Traverse City West attempted to mount a comeback, but Rockford’s defensive pressure proved to be the difference. The Rams kept their foot on the gas in the second half and eventually came away with a decisive 72–36 win.

The Titans fall to 1-3 on the season and have a quick turnaround as they play Muskegon Reeths-Puffer on Saturday at 1:30.
