Little Traverse Bay Humane Society takes over Emmet County’s stray animal services

EMMET COUNTY — Starting January 1st, Little Traverse Bay Humane Society will officially assume responsibility for Emmet County’s stray animal services contract.

Previously, stray animals were housed at the Emmet County Stray Center for the duration of the seven-day hold period required by county ordinance before being transferred for further care or placement.

Under the new agreement, all stray animals will be brought directly to LTBHS, where they will receive professional care throughout their legally required stray hold period.

Animals will be provided immediate medical assessment, vaccinations, parasite prevention, and humane care while efforts are made to reunite them with their families.

Elise Ramsey, the Executive Director of Little Traverse Bay Humane Society said that the have pivoted there operations to focus on Michigan, with 98% of their intakes from the state, and the originations is excited to be able to have the capacity to focus on their current county and have the ability to hold strays.

Ramesy added that the organization has been working with the sheriff on animal cruelty investigations, and hopes to ensure that every pet in Emmet County has what it needs, and every person has what they need to be a successful pet owner.
