CHIPPEWA COUNTY — A 28-year-old Brimley man has been arrested and charged following an investigation into alleged child sexually abusive activity, according to Michigan State Police.
According to a Dec. 17 news release, Michigan State Police said Jerred McCoy was arrested on charges of child sexually abusive activity — aggravated and using a computer to commit a crime following an investigation by the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Police said the investigation began after authorities learned McCoy was allegedly viewing child sexually abusive material online while living at his home in Brimley. A search was conducted, digital evidence was seized and charges were authorized by the Chippewa County Prosecutor’s Office.
McCoy was arrested by U.S. Marshals in West Virginia and extradited back to Michigan, police said.
According to Michigan State Police, McCoy is charged with two counts of child sexually abusive activity — aggravated, seven counts of child sexually abusive material — aggravated possession and eight counts of using a computer to commit a crime. He was arraigned Dec. 12 in the 91st District Court, where bond was set at $250,000 with conditions.
Police said bond conditions include GPS tether monitoring with house arrest, no contact with anyone under the age of 18, restrictions on internet use except for work, medical or legal reasons and other standard conditions.
McCoy is scheduled to return to court Jan. 12, 2026. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
If convicted, McCoy faces up to 25 years in prison for child sexually abusive activity — aggravated and up to 20 years in prison for using a computer to commit a crime, police said.
The Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit was assisted by the Michigan State Police Seventh District Fugitive Team, the U.S. Marshals Service and the U.S. Attorney General’s Office.
