TRAVERSE CITY — Up North Pride has opened a free community winter clothing closet, providing coats, snow pants, boots, gloves, and other essentials to anyone in need. The initiative is the first of its kind for the nonprofit, designed to help local families and individuals stay warm during the cold winter months.
“It’s no judgment, no questions asked,” said Adrienne Brown-Reasner, executive director of Up North Pride. “If you need something for yourself, great. If you’re getting something for someone else, great. We just want to make sure people are getting what they need.”
The response from the community has been overwhelming. Within hours of announcing the closet on social media, dozens of volunteers arrived with boxes and bags full of coats, handmade scarves, and other winter gear. Donations continue to pour in, helping ensure a wide variety of sizes and items are available for the public.
The clothing closet is open the next two weeks at the Up North Pride Community Center, 314 E. Eighth Street, with varying hours. Organizers say they may extend hours depending on community need and inventory.
In addition to clothing, the closet also offers books and art kits for those looking to gift items this holiday season. For more information on the community closet hours, upcoming events, and other programs, visit upnorthpride.com.
