Wreath-making tradition: Outdoor Decor Traverse City’s festive journey

TRAVERSE CITY — Sherri Glezman, owner of Outdoor Decor Traverse City, has turned her passion for wreath-making into a thriving business, just in time for the holiday season.

Forty years ago, Glezman began crafting wreaths from Christmas tree boughs, a venture that has now blossomed into a successful enterprise. Her business recently celebrated the grand opening of a new retail space in a log cabin, fulfilling a long-held dream.

“It’s very emotional,” Glezman said about seeing her dreams come true. “It’s been a long road.”

Glezman started selling Christmas trees when someone asked her husband if they made wreaths. At the time, Glezman was at home with three small boys, but she took the challenge and crafted her first wreath. The business has grown significantly, with Glezman and her team producing thousands of wreaths each season. In 2024 they made about 2,300 wreaths.

Outdoor Decor Traverse City offers a unique experience with wreath-making parties, where groups can gather to create their own wreaths while enjoying cocoa and Christmas music.

In the store, customers can find wreaths made from Frazier Fir, known for its softer, darker green needles that create a fuller appearance.

With a strong demand for fresh, handmade wreaths, Glezman’s business continues to thrive, bringing festive cheer to Traverse City and beyond. “Looking back from 40 years ago, making that first wreath, would you imagine that it would have turned into this?” Glezman reflected. “Absolutely not.”
